About the Owner Steven Pena, Owner, spent the past 12 years designing and developing websites. For 5 years he worked at Insight Inc., a multi-billion dollar computer and services reseller. During that time he spent a couple years as a design/developer and several years as a manager in Customer Experience Design.

Several highlights of his tenure as designer and developer there include:
  • Led a technical and visual redesign of the website. Steven was responsible for the design and development of key interfaces introduced with the redesign, which have persisted through the multiple site revisions. Some of these interfaces include dynamic js menus, dynamic login and account lookup functions, and a global quick view of cart contents (see website tutorial). He was also responsible for setting the site's informational and structural architecture.
  • Designed and developed an application in Flash to allow users to customize their homepage. This application used XML to transfer information to a PHP script which stored information into an Oracle database. Some of the key tasks surfaced in the application was the ability to change color-styles, select and re-arrange menu items, and select and organize main content, and save various profiles. See archived screenshots.
Several highlights of his tenure as manager there include:
  • Managed the integration of two sites' online customer experiences. This was part of an acquistion of a 2 billion dollar company (CoMark). The integration had to merge vastly different experiences into a unified, yet extremely flexible and customizable website. He also contributed a good portion to the development. See the current website.
  • Managed and designed the customer interface and experience of the search engine. Insight was the first in its industry to implement a navigational based search engine. Their competitors followed months later with similar designs and experiences. See the current search engine.
  • Instituted customer-scenario based design methodology and incorporated use case design into project workflow.
Steven Pena left Insight shortly after starting eMarkIT in 2004. In the year that followed, Steven ran eMarkIT successfully developing and launching 8 web projects (see portfolio).

In April of 2006, Steven Pena entered into a general partnership with ThoughtLava, LLC, as VP of Operations. During his time there, he was able to strategize, design and develop 5 new web projects (see portfolio), implement processes for the design and development cycle, and oversee the IT infrastructure. After 9 months, he left ThoughtLava and is currently dedicated to the growth and success of eMarkIT.
